Whirlwinds ripped through parts of Ho Chi Minh City on Friday night, damaging dozens of homes.
27 houses completely collapsed and the roofs of 212 homes were torn off by the whirlwinds in Binh Chanh district (the most affected area), according to Nguyen Van Truong, deputy chairman of the district’s People Committee.
Truong said people whose houses collapsed in the whirlwinds will receive a financial assistance of VND6 million per family and those injured will get VND1.5 million each from the provincial budget.
The whirlwinds also uprooted 200 trees in the Phu My Hung urban residential area in district 7.
Leaders of Phu My Hung Joint-stock company said the fallen trees have been cleaned up.
According to the National Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control, as of Sept 7, heavy rains, landslides, and floods had killed 25 people nationwide.
Provinces stretching from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien Hue are forecast to see heavy rains in the coming days under the affect of a low pressure area located near Hoang Sa archipelago, said Vu Anh Tuan of the national weather forecast station.
